As per the recommendations made in NEP 2020, a set of standards has been developed to ensure that all students at all levels of school education are taught by passionate, motivated, highly qualified, professionally trained, and well-equipped teachers. National Professional Standard for Teachers(NPST) would help in determining the attributes of the teachers at different levels of career pathways. In addition to this, NPST focuses on preparations, practice and performance improvement of all teachers. The standards and related policies are in line with the fundamental principles given in the NEP 2020 to provide high quality education to all. NCTE was mandated by the Ministry to formulate a guiding document and platform for operationalizing NPST.

National Professional Standard for Teachers (NPST) will monitor the design of pre-service teacher education program. This could be then adopted by states and determine all aspects of teacher career management, including tenure, professional development efforts, salary increases, promotions, and other recognitions.

In this regard, a draft document on NPST has been developed by NCTE after incorporating ideas and suggestions received from experts of various domains. The draft document has been released on November 17, 2021 to invite the suggestions and feedback from all stakeholders.

Teachers should be not involved in other clerical works. They should be focused on teaching only. More freedom should be given them for teaching.

8. A feedback loop mechanism must be adopted by the system to oversee the reasons why the teachers are not interested to progress in their career and not willing to change with times. 9. Teachers should be encouraged to teach with an open mind of teaching as well as learning. Learning can be even through their own students. For instance, the students can teach them with technology same as the teacher facilitates with academics. 10. Teachers must be prepared to adopt changes with changing times.

6. Rising of a teacher's growth in career from Pragammi to Pramukh must not be bound by the number of years of service he/she has in the career. That would cause hindrance to people thinking to choose it as a career thus leaving behind bright people. 7. Workshops on Special Education and Career Management must be conducted on a regular basis so that the teachers are aware of their growth and encourage them to continuously strive towards it.

4. A teacher's professionalism and eligibility into the next stage must be judged by the kind of assignments he/she gives to the students rather than the difficulty of the assignments. 5. An open resource platform must be available for teachers to interact with each other similar to MyGov to interact with people across their community and gain knowledge and share resources. For instance, i-Stem is being used for sharing experimental resources, similarly, an integrated platform must facilitate.

3. Teachers today are more involved in clerical jobs like students progress cards, mid day meals mapping and so on. This makes them lose their interest towards teaching. These must be facilitated by introducing them to online resources like MS Excel, MS Word and so on. This makes their additional time at home stress-free and helps them focus on education.

1. Teachers have to be given regular training on professionalism. However, they cannot be conducted as workshops. Teachers feel it as an additional burden. Rather it must go as simple long term assignments that involves their duty as teacher, teaching students. 2. Encourage teachers into constant learning, integration of resources available to them such as demonstrations by other teachers to explain a topic in an effective manner.

Teachers can appropriately modify assessments to make them culturally or ethnically relevant or to allow the adequate testing of students with varying abilities in English and of students with individual needs. Ethical application of these assessment methods allows students to understand and reflect on their own growth and learning
