As per the recommendations made in NEP 2020, a set of standards has been developed to ensure that all students at all levels of school education are taught by passionate, motivated, highly qualified, professionally trained, and well-equipped teachers. National Professional Standard for Teachers(NPST) would help in determining the attributes of the teachers at different levels of career pathways. In addition to this, NPST focuses on preparations, practice and performance improvement of all teachers. The standards and related policies are in line with the fundamental principles given in the NEP 2020 to provide high quality education to all. NCTE was mandated by the Ministry to formulate a guiding document and platform for operationalizing NPST.

National Professional Standard for Teachers (NPST) will monitor the design of pre-service teacher education program. This could be then adopted by states and determine all aspects of teacher career management, including tenure, professional development efforts, salary increases, promotions, and other recognitions.

In this regard, a draft document on NPST has been developed by NCTE after incorporating ideas and suggestions received from experts of various domains. The draft document has been released on November 17, 2021 to invite the suggestions and feedback from all stakeholders.

Good evening all, Here i just want to say that teacher is an asset for the nation. It's only teacher who erect the child future. In other country a teacher has been honoured for their great act. I want to illustrate that teacher should be respected at every step. Teacher is the soul of the nation and no nation can progress without teacher.

The growth of various social platform have adversely led to many unemployed youth or say freshers with the required skills for teaching to opt for conducting online courses. So, its essential to provide sufficient vacancies and offer special benefits such that the teaching candidates will be attracted to hold a government physical teacher position rather than choosing the online platforms.

Promotions and salary of teachers should not be increased based on the length of tenure or seniority, but only on the basis of appraisal, performance and a strict assessment.

The teachers must have essential training and above all the knowledge of child psychology. The recruitment standards should be the same, there should be one exam like NEET and the required and short term effective training programs other than BEd and MEd.

It will always be important to remember that empowerment and autonomy are preconditions for true accountability – a threatening environment is the nemesis of sustainable quality. An accountability mechanism that has clear non-negotiables and supports teachers in effecting improvements will tend to work the most effectively.”
