As per the recommendations made in NEP 2020, a set of standards has been developed to ensure that all students at all levels of school education are taught by passionate, motivated, highly qualified, professionally trained, and well-equipped teachers. National Professional Standard for Teachers(NPST) would help in determining the attributes of the teachers at different levels of career pathways. In addition to this, NPST focuses on preparations, practice and performance improvement of all teachers. The standards and related policies are in line with the fundamental principles given in the NEP 2020 to provide high quality education to all. NCTE was mandated by the Ministry to formulate a guiding document and platform for operationalizing NPST.

National Professional Standard for Teachers (NPST) will monitor the design of pre-service teacher education program. This could be then adopted by states and determine all aspects of teacher career management, including tenure, professional development efforts, salary increases, promotions, and other recognitions.

In this regard, a draft document on NPST has been developed by NCTE after incorporating ideas and suggestions received from experts of various domains. The draft document has been released on November 17, 2021 to invite the suggestions and feedback from all stakeholders.

SAME EDUCATION FOR ALL INDIANS, SCHOOLEDUCATION MUST BE FREE FOR ALL INDIAN SCHOOLS, NOMINAL FEE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION, MAKE THE EDUCATION THAT STUDENTS SHOULD STAND THEIR OWN LEG. JAIHIND.

Honourable PM, As a teacher, I strongly believe that the teacher must be a lifelong learners. Teacher selection should be based on innovation they apply in their respective subject. Selection test can incude application of innovative methods in teaching apart from knowledge. Continuous assessment of performance and time to time in service training should be monitored.

Hon'ble Prime Minister sir, I feel that teachers must change their way of approaching students. Being an adolescent student myself, I have noticed that students respect and obey teachers with whom they share a relation of friendship. It is said that after a particular age, parents should become friends with their children, same applies for students and teachers too. Majority of students have a lot to give and wish to learn but strict behaviour of teachers often stirs students to disobedience.

Teachers have a repertoire of effective teaching strategies and use them to implement well-designed teaching programs and lessons. They regularly evaluate all aspects of their teaching practice to ensure they are meeting the learning needs of their students. They interpret and use student assessment data to diagnose barriers to learning and to challenge students to improve their performance.

Developing professional standards for teachers that can guide professional learning, practice and engagement facilitates the improvement of teacher quality and contributes positively to the public standing of the profession. The key elements of quality teaching are described in the Standards. They articulate what teachers are expected to know and be able to do at four career stages: Graduate, Proficient, Highly Accomplished and Lead.
