As per the recommendations made in NEP 2020, a set of standards has been developed to ensure that all students at all levels of school education are taught by passionate, motivated, highly qualified, professionally trained, and well-equipped teachers. National Professional Standard for Teachers(NPST) would help in determining the attributes of the teachers at different levels of career pathways. In addition to this, NPST focuses on preparations, practice and performance improvement of all teachers. The standards and related policies are in line with the fundamental principles given in the NEP 2020 to provide high quality education to all. NCTE was mandated by the Ministry to formulate a guiding document and platform for operationalizing NPST.

National Professional Standard for Teachers (NPST) will monitor the design of pre-service teacher education program. This could be then adopted by states and determine all aspects of teacher career management, including tenure, professional development efforts, salary increases, promotions, and other recognitions.

In this regard, a draft document on NPST has been developed by NCTE after incorporating ideas and suggestions received from experts of various domains. The draft document has been released on November 17, 2021 to invite the suggestions and feedback from all stakeholders.

Sir, after my regular engagement with IAF for a brief period of seven months in 2011 I served as a Shikshya Sahayak at primary school in Balasore, Odisha. My remuneration was Rs.3500/- at that time & around Rs.450/- deducted towards PF sub which is still with them. Finally I left the teaching job as I found very difficult to maintain my family with two school going kids. Then u can imagine who did make such horrible state to education system. its due to semi litterate politicians & greedy Bureau

Sir, then Supreme court came to the rescue of teachers due to some cases filled by Gujarat teacher association and questioned what was teaching helper/assistant!! Successive center & state govts in our federalism tried their best to destroy govt teaching institutions and wanted to replace with commercialisation of education. so the rural talent pools did not get strong foundation whereas urban students r conditioned with tutorial enterprises r made some good strides so compelled other to opt pvt

Sir, during 1983 when 10+2+3+2 system adopted against 11+2+2+2 academic yrs, we made quality compromises by reducing standard for passing & substituted with grace marks to maximize passing percent. Then in Ninty many unscrupulous students succeeded by adopting dubious means & became teachers or teaching administrators. They formulated Shikshya saathi @ Rs.180/- to teach in primary & upper primary & later formulated Shikshya Sahayak @Rs.3000/- which was translated as teaching assistant by SC, ind

Sir, I will share some basic insights regarding downfall of our education system fm primary to apex level.1- our past govt compromised with talent pool quality for teachers/educators as good teachers r perceived to be an enemy to ruling elites.2-Students taught by enlightened teachers r perceived threat to self promoting dynistical leaders. 3-Divide & Rule & appeasement & vote bank politics lowered our teaching standard.4- fake degree holders sneaked into system through bureau & Politico nexus.

The teachers are most important piller of the country and future maker of the national . The selection criteria for teachers must be very rigorous and tough like civil services. After all they have to mold the mindset of our new generation from school level to University level. The Govt. should also take the steps to provide the dignity to teaching profession and more than others. It will definitely attract more talant to adopt the teaching as their profession.
