Registration of Births and Deaths in India is mandatory with the enactment of Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD), Act 1969 and is done as per the place of occurrence of the event. With a view to simplify the provisions of various sections of the existing RBD Act, 1969 and to make it people friendly, the Government of India has proposed to amend the RBD Act, 1969.

Existing sections of the Act and amendments proposed by the Office of the Registrar General, India (ORGI) are indicated in the first two columns of the proposal respectively.
Ministry of Home Affairs seeks feedback and suggestions along with the justification for the proposed amendments.

The birth and death should be registered electronically and the certificates should be issued electronically. People should not be exploited by the corrupt officials. Similarly all Government activities to be moved to e-Governance to eliminate corruption and red-tapisom in the country which are the obstacles in the development of the nation.
