As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

This is your chance to tell the story that must be told and honour the freedom fighters who have played an important role in making our nation free.

As early as 1902 Besant had written that "India is not ruled for the prospering of the people, but rather for the profit of her conquerors, and her sons are being treated as a conquered race." She encouraged Indian national consciousness, attacked caste and child marriage, and worked effectively for Indian education.[41] Along with her theosophical activities, Besant continued to actively participate in political matters. She had joined the Indian National Congress. As the name suggested, this was originally a debating body, which met each year to consider resolutions on political issues. Mostly it demanded more of a say for middle-class Indians in British Indian governmentIn 1914 World War I broke out, and Britain asked for the support of its Empire in the fight against Germany. Echoing an Irish nationalist slogan, Besant declared, "England's need is India's opportunity". As editor of the New India newspaper, she attacked the colonial government of India

Kuyili, She was a friend of Velu nachiyar, the queen of Sivagangai. She was the leader of a unit of women soldiers. She walked into the british arsenal after setting on herself, thus destroying all the ammunition. She gave her life to destroy british ammunition

Most of us know about Jhansi Rani. But we don't know about Velu Nachiyar. She is a freedom fighter from Tamil nadu. She was one of earliest to oppose british rule in India. She was well trained in horse riding and archery. The british took away her kingdom. With the help of Hyder ali and Marudhu brothers she recaptured her kingdom.

Sarla Devi Chaudhari She was born Sarla Ghoshal on 9 September 1872, she was the niece of Rabindranath Tagore and was active in the national freedom struggle. She was among the first Indian women to form women's organizations. She married Congress activist RambhujDutt Chaudhari from Lahore in 1905, who died in 1923. She was very close to Mahatma Gandhi and her only son Dipak married Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson. She stood with the Bhagat Singh family during his trial and later execution. She died on 18 August 1945, ironically the day Netaji Subhas Bose died. She founded Bharat Stree Mahamandal in Allahabad in 1910. This was the first women's organization in India. One of the primary goals of the organization was to promote female education.

The Government of India launched 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' to celebrate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This festival began on March 12, 2021 -75 weeks prior to India's 75th Independence Day on August 15, 2022 -and will continue until August 15, 2023. “We cannot call Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad and Birsa Munda as 'unsung heroes'. They have included Tantiya Tope, Nanaji Deshmukh, and Ravi Narayan Reddy.
