The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

For any further information about E-Waste, please visit the GREENE website.

1.Retailers have good outreach to customers. If manufacturing companies and government do a tie-up with these retailers for collection of e-waste it would be really beneficial. As retailers are the one who will be interacting with normal people.

Hello sir, I am from Maharashtra. I have found some options for better recycling of E-waste. they are as follows- Some E-waste important materials (like Computer parts, Mobile parts and other materials) should be recycled. that is it should be given to the students of IT/Electronic Engineers who are studying in government collages. They can use it for there Projects, They can use it as a raw material, they can develop new from it. so these avail E-waste can be used by student

I m working as a social activist n my project is on -waste management. I have been called up by Uttarakhand govt. For the project presentation n also by Gujarat university for awarding 2nd prize my prototype and paper work on this project! I have designed a prototype of a machine which can reduce 50% of our day to day biodegradable waste and can produce manure in 3hour. That manure we can use for plantation or gardening purpose which will produce healthy n fresh fruits and flowers.

In my view point it is becoming a necessity or prime duty of every nation to reduce the e-waste.For this there are various methods to extract metals from various electronic items and use them once again. There must be government centre for this purpose as even villages are not exempted from e-waste.So recycling is the best way to reduce it...either by this method or some other.
