The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

For any further information about E-Waste, please visit the GREENE website.

I am Lovnish Thakur, a Biotech student, my idea is that we can synthesize nanoparticle from e-waste using bioleaching technology.By using some Microorganism and those nanoparticles have various application in medicine(drugs), electronics, material & manufacturing, nanofabric, packaging etc. This will help us in utilizing & recycling the e-waste as well as generate nanoparticles that have various applications.

Many people in India still do not understand what is e waste and its hazardous effect on our health. LACK OF E WASTE COLLECTION CENTER. In my home I have 2 mobile phones that I can dump into waste but I am forced to keep them with me because of no proper facility to collect such waste in my city and also I can not just throw it in a regular garbage. Print large adds in local news paper explaining e waste in local language and arrange nation wide one day program to collect e waste.

First open district wise Ppp mode Recyclable E-waste collection points. Encourage public to only dispose e wastes with them or their verified Centres. Collected wastes must undergo segregation and recyclable & partially Recyclable wastes are sent to appropriate industries. Rest non recyclable must be processed at proper places to prevent environment pollution. Start with attractive schemes for investors or Let the Production companies set such Centres.

Concerted efforts are required to tackle E-waste menace. We can establish E waste collection centre in every district under appropriate govt authority which incentivize the ragpickers, scrap dealers who provide the e waste collected by them. These collection centers then segregate the waste, circuit boards are crushed and then moulded into plastic bricks which may find its use in lane divders and constructions etc.Plastic coverings may get moulded into plastic bullets for abrasives in industries.

Pollution control board had to enforce mechanism with approved/Verified Vendor to pay money in turn of e-waste. Retruns of E-Waste will encourage to dispose through proper channel.
