The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

For any further information about E-Waste, please visit the GREENE website.

The “waste management” reality in most places of the world equals no separation, no controlled collection. Dump your stuff next to the street outside the village, like your ancestors always did, and you’re fine. When all the efforts to burn fail (which they usually do), cover the remaining pile with a thin layer of earth and ignore the horrible smell. The method has been around for centuries and it worked very well until recently: Self-sufficient agricultural societies traditionally took all the

Dear Sir, The e-waste processing should be entrusted to the companies producing the products. A facility for this purpose is to be brought up in a group participation mode where each company has to contribute a certain amount based on the number of products they produced and the scrap is processed in the common facility. The operation and maintenance of the facility should be done by the companies and their contributions based on their production and participation made compulsory for regn.

Add new subjects regarding "Treatment & recycling of e-waste" to all engineering and diploma colleges. Students must be taught safe measures to treat & change e-waste to valuable devices like camera phones being used for cctv monitoring OR using smartphones to provide public wifi. All that is needed to be done is to properly educate students of the parts used in electronic devices, how they can be tweaked/ repaired, safety measures to deal with e-waste.

Sir/madam, In India, most of the electronic equipments are thrown out because it is out dated or any one part is not functioning properly. And there are people who have a brilliant ability to tinker, and are able to turn many spoiled products to useful things. So i would suggest you to design a website or a competition.where every citizen can share his ideas about how to reuse the ewaste. By doing this we can make electronics accessible to bpl people at a low prices. Here is an attempt made by:
