Khadi is not merely a piece of cloth. It is a philosophy. A way of life. A symbol of empowerment, self-dependence, pride of history, Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of the relevance of roots.

As Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi on his radio program “Mann ki Baat” on 3rd October, 2014 said that “we must promote the use of Khadi and we should buy at least one Khadi article. If you buy Khadi, you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of the poor”.This appealled to an increase in Khadi sales by 125% at the various outlets in India. This reflects a latent demand for Khadi, which needs to tapped which in turn will create rural employment. Potential consumers of Khadi could be schools, hospitals, Railways, PSUs, Army, Para-military forces, Fashion houses etc.

USP of the Khadi product is its eco-friendly, almost carbon neutral nature, which leaves near zero water footprints. It is socio-economically sustainable textile product. It’s an all-weather and allergy free fabric. Hence, Khadi use is a step towards ‘Zero Effect’ and ‘Zero Poverty’ India.

Currently, people employed in Khadi sector are earning Rs.1200 to Rs.1800 per month. MGIRI Wardha has developed a Solar Charkha which can increase the earnings to four times the existing one, cutting the drudgery along.Taking the initiative forward, MoMSME is going to start a pilot project in the KHANWA village, Nawada district of Bihar, where 100 Solar Charkhas would be distributed to the rural women for spinning of yarn. Under buyback arrangement with ‘Gram Nirmaan Mandal, Khadi Sansthan, GAYA, these yarns would be weaved into Khadi products. This scheme islikely to provide Rs.5000 to 8000 per month to the women artisans. This model of wage earnings to the rural women has to be scaled up so as to achieve the visionary goal of providing job opportunities to crores of rural women in coming years.

This, in turn is expected to lay a platform for another visionary goal of increasing the market share of Khadi in the textile sector from present 0.4% to 5% in next Five years in first phase.

In pursuance of the above twin visionary goals, you are requested to give your valuable inputs on

1. How to enhance the production and sale of Khadi?
2. How to create a niche for Khadi products particularly among youths and about 2.5 crore NRIs living abroad?
3. How to foster awareness about Khadi products?

The last date for submission of your comments is 31st March, 2015.

Medicinal Trees need to be planted again. They provide livelihood to tribal and village communities. A tree needs 25 years to mature. Farmers can not wait for long. Open unused lands can be used for increasing tree cover. Formation of Forestry Bank, National Tree Fund, Mission on economic and Medicinal trees and Tax benefits can initiate tree plantations. The tree cover in India needs serious improvement. Planned reforestation can change it.

Jewish National Fund (Israel) plants a tree by accepting donation of US$10. We need India National Tree/Forest Fund, where we can donate & get tax benefit. Agency can plant and protect suggested economic, medicinal and native useful tree. Long term (25 years) soft loan (simple 2%) can generate forest on open unused private & corporate lands. Law is needed to insist 33% Green Tree Cover on all private open lands. Development,Agriculture or Forestry be the options. No land to be kept open & unused

Delhi should be created as a separate state by segregating Central Govt Areas with the rest of the Delhi. Leaving the area of Central govt, Presidential State, Diplomatic enclaves, rest should be given to the Delhi govt. including DDA, MCD and Delhi police of that area. The Central govt. area can be administered by one authority appointed by the Central govt.

Black money: Do not wait till march 31 to reveal the names of black money holders. Otherwise people will think government did nothing and it is court who did it. Those whose investigations are complete, reveal the names and start recovering immediately before people loose faith.

The different boards should be established and the object of the Board is to develop the Khadi and Village Industries in rural areas in collaboration with like minded agencies engaged in rural development work. The Board through these Co-operative Societies also promotes Khadi and Village Industries and thereby provides maximum possible level of employment opportunities to the rural artisans.

RTE is a roadblock to education - a Class IX student I know can't read Hindi at all and failed Class IX last year as he claimed "the teacher didn't allow us to copy (meaning cheating) this year in exam". He was made to pass upto class 8 by cheating every year. What is your answer to this?

Khadi, refers to Handspun and Hand-woven cloth. The raw materials may be Cotton, Silk, or Wool, which are spun into threads on a Charkha (A traditional spinning implement). The Rebate on sales of Khadi and Khadi products is made available by the Government so as to make the price of Khadi and Khadi products competitive with other Textiles. The Government is paying attention to the Employment Generation Programmes being implemented to provide respectable employment to Women and guide them. Thanks
