Tribal development forms the foundation for the economic growth of a nation which carries with it a substantial portion of the tribal population. Supporting the native tradition is the key to building a strong community and a healthy economy. With 8% of the population of India belonging to the Scheduled Tribe it becomes critical for the government to safeguard their interest and promote their livelihood. TRIFED the Government of India established organization, supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been a security net for the tribes across the nation for over 30 years now. It has taken several initiatives for socio-economic welfare and empowerment of tribal communities through capability building, marketing, distribution, packaging, and other supporting activities.

Inhabiting the remotest parts of the country and being reserved, poses several problems for the community as well as the government in assisting their growth

• Dwelling in the Natural Habitat they carry a wealth of knowledge in plants, forest produces as well as ancient herbs, which is tantamount to that of an expert. With efficient support, this can be developed further to generate significant income for the community
• There has been an increase in the rate of unemployment among schedule tribes in the past few years owing to the lack of connection to the mainstream market
• Despite having been given reservations by the central government, residing in rural areas have posed difficulty for them in making the most of the benefits offered
• Members of the tribal community have made noteworthy contributions to the nation right from our struggle for freedom to the field of Healthcare, Education, and Technology. This shows that the community holds the potential to thrive under proper guidance

Taking the aforesaid points into consideration, TRIFED has committed itself to ensuring the all-around welfare of the Indian tribes. This is not limited to just inculcating entrepreneurial skills among them or having built an exclusive brand “Tribes India” for them but extends to establishing Van DhanKendras, providing awareness about vaccination for Covid, providing vocational training, and organizing Trade Fairs on a massive scale. The recent decision to observe the 15th November-the birth anniversary of tribal icon BirsaMunda as “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas” is praiseworthy and TRIFED would unveil The National Tribal Festival “Aadi Mahotsav” on the following day to commemorate it. This festival is not only a platform for the tribal artisans to showcase their valuable skills but the revenue that it generates for the community is of utmost significance.

TRIFED under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi has been constantly pushing and coming up with reformed measures to realize the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat by improving the quality of tribal produce, providing technological up-gradation, assisting in research & development and is now keen to see the suggestions of field experts, students, business leaders, social activists, subject-matter experts and all the contributors to this field in order to expedite its mission of economic development of Tribals.

As we mark the 75th year of India’s Independence we want you to have a greater stake in revolutionizing the tribal economy.

Respected Sir As you are aware that TRIFED is working for the betterment and upliftment of tribal artisans through its procurement policy i.e. TRIFED procure products from tribal artisans which are handmade by them and sell through TRIFED's "tribes India" outlets which are spread in all state of India and Indian Embassies in other countries. In this regard, my suggestion is that just like for other items govt. offices are procuring products from E-Market / GeM, this office should also procure daily need products from TRIFED also as these products are made by the tribal artisans of respective regions which are directly connected to TRIFED. Also, TRIFED is the nodal implementing agency for VDVK in which TRIFED provide them with skill training, final product packaging, etc. Also, this skillful tribal artisan can make products as per the requirement. through this, we can provide them market exposure which will directly benefit their livelihood.

All policies are paralyzed without direct benefit transfer to the tribals bank account. State governments and central government schemes benefits to tribals should be directly transfer to the bank account of tribals otherwise the scheme for tribals will remain on paper. The tribals scheme have 99 percentage of corruption by government officials. All the tribals scheme benefits are ingulfed by the politicians as well as by corrupt officials.

1) Tribes live in jungle. Best source of income can be agriculture. They should grow fruit trees starting with bamboo, papaya and banana trees which will give them quick income in a year. And grow peanuts and vegetables wherever possible so that edible groundnut oil will be available. All imports of fruits and vegetables like onions can be banned then.

Jai hind sir please make every village, mandal, town, city, district, state in to grid system and employ your followers/officials to capture the basic developments required in that area viz roads, water, medical, jobs, housing, sanitation, electricity, etc etc under different heads on internet. Now accordingly please release the funds to respective areas for improvement and make the respective official/followers responsible. please use local resources and people as much as you can, so that local employment is generated. please ensure industrial development is uniform through out the grids such that migration of people is restricted, so that congestion of places can be avoided. Vocal for local and make in India should be given maximum subsidies so that world class quality products are made even in our remotest places. Rich people should be encouraged to contribute to the grids in and around as CSR. For example govt schools, hospitals and parks, sports facilities can be taken care by them

Moreover due to general low level of education their awareness level is also low and so they tend to ignore the basic conditions of health. Status of tribal women in terms of education, employment and health is low not just compared to tribal men but also in comparison to women belonging to the general population.

Tribal women in India are hardworking than tribal men and they contribute significantly towards their family income but their income generating sources are limited. Low income necessitates more hands in labour as a result they are reluctant to send their children to formal schools. Moreover due to general low level of education their awareness level is also low and so they tend to ignore the basic conditions of health. Status of tribal women in terms of education, employment and health is low not just compared to tribal men but also in comparison to women belonging to the general population.

The tribals have abundant untapped knowledge about medicinal values of various plants in their region, Their such unique knowledge have not been utilized so far. It is time to utilize them to identify such plants, encourage them to grow such plants, develop infrastructure facilities including modern factories to manufacture extracts from these leaves and stems and to be marketed all over India. These factories will be totally maintained by them. By this the local younger generation get employment and the hidden skills of these tribals will be converted into meaningful commodity. Instead of giving them dole every year this action will make them feel proud. Jai Hind!!
