The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP.  For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure   a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

Even after 67 years of independence, we have not achieved requisite technology or skill for environment friendly mining in our country. Mining of minerals is very essential for development and progress as a developing country. Skill development in this sector needs quality education and technical institutions of world class. Opportunity should be given to willing workers or students to per-sue this as career which only can be done by involving private sectors under govt partnership/supervision.

I think first question is why privatization? is 'privatization' stand for superiority over government system and efforts?. we can train govt. employees for such kind of necessary programs. Training programs should be grasp by govt. employees for result orientation and to extract better outputs from suitable end. This chain should work consistently so that overall output with better result we can get at final. We intake best minds in the PSU so we should believe on them and train them by overselves
