Department of Telecommunications (DoT) through their letter dated 27th February 2019 has informed that Indian Railways has proposed to install an Ultra-high-speed LTE based communication corridor along their network for Train-Ground and Train-Train communication. In this connection Indian Railways has requested DoT to reserve 15 MHz of spectrum in 700 MHz band for the purpose and to begin with 10 MHz to be allocated free of cost as the proposal is devoid of any commercial gain, but only for enhancing security and passenger amenities. Through the said letter, DoT has also requested TRAI to provide recommendations on administrative allotment of spectrum to Indian Railways and the quantum, price, appropriate frequency band (including 450-470 MHz band) and any other related issue.

A Consultation Paper on “Allotment of Spectrum to Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security Services” has been released to discuss the issues involved. Written comments on the issues raised in the Consultation Paper are invited from the stakeholders by 22nd July 2019 and counter-comments by 5th August 2019.

For any clarification / information Shri S.T. Abbas, Advisor (Networks, Spectrum & Licensing), TRAI may be contacted at Telephone Number +91-11-23210481.

Why Not ? THough Passangeris having personal connections but subject to bad network quality in remote places. Railway can make it chargeable (on Mobile no. registered at the time of booking) Also help reducing fake tickets or agent booking Good network can be used for education, entertainment, social awareness (through audio/ video messages) Location can be shared by the passangers. Railway may also get amount from public platform like Facebook, google for network allowed

Such type of initiation is the need of the time. Indian Railways are the World's largest public-sector since long. It needs qualitative improvement at every level. ICT could be the best approach for the induction of qualitative services. But the most important note is the execution and applicability. The awareness among the target stakeholders needs to be taken due care before final execution.

We expect good policies from government, not free net access connectivity, make education free to all children, there should not be a partition like government and private schools. Only government should run schools.

Will this be applicable only for railway employees or it can be used by public travelling in trains also. if for both it is good and will be provided at the earliest. if only railway staff only will use the spectrum than also it is better since the railways is dependent on other network providers for all its communications. By that mean railways will save a huge amount of hiring charges that would be given to private organisations.

Sir, The network strength in rural area is so bad. So I would suggest u that the quality of network in rural should be maintained. Not only single one here all service providers have poor quality network.
