The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP. For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

As an engineer myself, I can assure you that engineering students are habituated to working on very low budgets and often producing fantastic results. The government has an ongoing initiative called IEDC (under the Dept of Science & Technology) which grants a sum of 1 lakh rupees to certain socially beneficial projects in several engineering colleges all over the country. Today, no endeavour can be more socially beneficial than the one which will ensure the safety of women in our country.

In the light of the growing incidents of violent crimes in public transportation in our country, I propose that all forms of public transport, i.e. buses, trains, even taxis and auto-rickshaws be remotely video-monitored. I understand that this is a seemingly expensive move for the government. However, I would further like to propose that this project be given to several engineering colleges instead of some company.

Bureaucrats, government servants and organisations including of central and state governments and of private sector shirk accountability by avoiding replies and responses to citizens’ correspondence. Please introduce a Right to Reply policy / law which will make it mandatory for all authorities to reply all letters (preferably through email to ensure better accountability) that citizens send and are of significance in terms of their finances, conveniences, liberty, security, entitlements etc.

THE MINING SECTORS CONSISTS JOBS AT VARIOUS FIELDS WHERE RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE. THE TRAINEES SHOULD BE MOTIVATION WITH FINANCIAL AND NON FINANCIAL INCENTIVES. THERE SHOULD BE NO WASTAGE AND PRODUCTION SHOULD BE MORE. THE PRODUCTION LINKED INCENTIVES STRUCTURE IS THE BEST ONE.

Government should encourage and expand programs by industry to employ untrained people for temperory jobs to train them in skills that would prepare them real jobs in India. It may look like exploitation of under training employees, but in reality they would gain very good experience to get better paying jobs in short future. Industry trains employes much better than ITI and other schools. Stipend could be fixed that could support students in training.
