I take this opportunity to record my deep appreciation of the CG and staff of our Consulate in Vancouver, Canada. In cultural matters, their work is exemplary.

Hon PM could consider initiating a Smart Mission project in addition to Smart Cities project. Any effort to improve business process efficiency would be welcome, be it passport renewal or notarisation services. Perhaps it is time to delink strictly diplomatic or consular functions from routine businesses. This would mean deploying a different kind of work force in Indian Missions to handle businesses and processes than depending upon individuals recruited for secertariat services

(1) A phone number for HCI London which is actually answered by someone. (2) Educated, Knowledgeable, Professional, Courteous, Well-trained & adequate staff should be manning these forward posts of our country because first impressions really do count. (3) E-validation/ verification of Indian Nationals & their credentials for various purposes. (4) Frequent cultural & social awareness programmes held by the Consulate to engage the common NRI as well, not just the Elite & Rich diaspora.

We need to experience an international progressive environment at all Indian Embassies rather than the current "desi" look, smell and attitude. I could help in this process of changing the first impression of India people get when visiting these forward posts! It will help change everyone's perception of India before setting foot on indian soil!

If I compare my 2007 experience at Dubai Indian Consulate with the some of the recent ones, the service quality has improved a lot, thanks to outsourcing of many key tasks. Sheer volume of our fellow countrymen does require larger manpower and its a good initiative. Think we could do with better support in validating our educational documents. I would have spent a good amount of monies to prove my degrees are genuine! Don't know if this is only Middle East countries requirement.

Barring ONE occasion, my experience(s) at HCI London have been really bad over the years & same can be said of most people I've come across!! There's inherent arrogance, unprofessional-ism & contempt for NRI's. Instead of helping fellow Indian's they seem to make things as difficult as possible, even if someone is desperate! Right from the security guy at entrance, service counter & cashier, all seem uninterested & dysfunctional, unless you have fair skin or you know someone inside!!
