Industrial tie up, let see from engineer points of . How many engineers does graduate from India? How many engineers and allied companies are there (what are their placement criteria)? How many companies have adopted education institute (apart from IITs and IIMs)? How many government ties up have with the local institute (apart from IITs and IIMs)?

There are several models tried world wide. May be we can learn from German system.

Industry should adapt syllabus which will suit their needs will improve employability

International Industry Qualifications should be given weightage in jobs and promotions rather than giving full credit to exams depending on cramming and writing answers. Especially in Technical Education, more credits should be given to industrial qualifications rather than only academic ones & the same should be incorporated in curriculum also.

Currently quality of most of the faculty is very poor with no or very little PRACTICAL knowledge. Pass a legislative bill to make industry-institute personnel exchange more formal. Faculty to work in relevant industry for minimum 2 yrs to gain PRACTICAL knowledge. Meanwhile the industry person to teach in the institute giving more practical inputs to students and telling them about expectations from the industry. Offer tax sops to industries that take up student & faculty sabbaticals.

Internship and undergraduate research opportunities for students and opportunities for faculty to spend their sabbatical leave working in industry must be encouraged by MHRD, and be made part of requirements for graduation. Industry can be incentivized if necessary. The most important requirement for such an initiative to succeed is that academic calendars must be fixed well ahead of time so that everyone can plan at least one semester ahead if not a year ahead.

Industry Academia Linkages have to improve. UGC should allow Industry Veterans to hold senior teaching positions (without making PhD mandatory) in the Universities as full_time/part_time/guest faculty and get compensated for it. Companies should not restrict their employees from taking up paid part time teaching assignments. Universities should allow faculty to take up part time industry jobs.

JOB ORIENTED EDUCATION PART-6 For instance, if survey indicates that an engineering graduate is performing the job of a banker for last few/many years and there is no chance for him to switch over to the engineering profession, the respective Government, which awarded him the engineering degree certificate should be asked to reduce the number of intake in engineering college and increase the intake capacity in commerce or banking & finance stream to such an extent to be revealed by the surveys.

To begin with, the Central and State Governments together can undertake a survey of all employees in Govt./Semi-Govt./Public & Private sectors to ascertain the field of education of the employees and the field in which they are employed with, including length of services.
