Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

MORE GREENERY NEEDED. TREE TRIMMING BEFORE MONSOON ARRIVAL SHOULD BE RELIGIOUSLY FOLLOWED. MISSION CAN BE ASSIGNED TO THE FIRE & RESECUE SERVICES DEPTT. WHO HAVE EXPERTISE THAN THE PRESENT AUTHORITY VIZ. CHENNAI CORPN WHO ARE CLIPPING THE BRANCHES IN AN UNSCIENTIFIC MANNER STANDING ON THE GROUND. STREET PLATFORMS SHOULD BE MADE ENCROACHMENT FREE AND TO ENSURE THIS, RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD BE HANDED OVER TO POLICE. BOTH THE FIRE & POLICE PERSONNEL SHOULD BE AWARDED WITH SPECIAL PAY FOR THIS.

Reuse in commercial establishments is likely to be limited to paperproducts and packaging materials, since previously used glass and metal containers must meet stringent quality and sanitation standards. Any remaining dry recyclables and special waste, including e-waste, undergo final sorting and segregation for sale to recycling facilities.

Commercial establishments such restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, and markets primarily generate food waste that can be processed into animal feed or soil conditioners in composting plants. Food waste in high-income countries is collected and processed into animal feed known as Ecofeed in Japan and Singapore.

Segregated food waste can be brought to either composting plants or facilities that process these materials into animal feed. As with residential waste, ash from incineration plants and residuals from MRFs can be used as aggregates or as ingredients in the production of glass or ceramic items.

The industrial sector generates mainly special and hazardous wastes which are collected and ultimately disposed of at treatment facilities, WTE plants, or sanitary landfills. Packaging materials and some housekeeping waste can be reused directly at source. The remainder, including e-waste, is collected and brought to MRFs for final segregation before being sold to recycling facilities.

TOD involves a package of measures that both eliminate trips and reduce trip length. A cornerstone of any TOD project is the development of commercial and residential property investment around public transport stations.
