Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th October, 2015.

For another, you will want to distinguish between existing and new buildings. In existing buildings, you want to take full advantage of any sensors or switches that are already present. Fortunately, companies are starting to make software that can talk to legacy equipment from many different manufacturers. It is usually much less expensive to find a software “overseer” than to rip out old instrumentation and replace it with new.

Not only can ICT reduce energy waste, it can help buildings produce their own energy via on-site solar panels, wind turbines, fuel cells and the like. Distributed generation won’t replace power plants outright. But together with energy storage and demand response, it can reduce the number of peaker power plants. Distributed generation also helps reduce the environmental costs associated with transmitting energy over long distances.

In the same way that ICT helps smart buildings save energy, it helps them save water too. Operational optimization helps smart buildings manage water resources with precise efficiency, eliminating waste and reducing cost for owners and occupants. Sometimes it’s just a matter of better scheduling.

Most buildings can save 10 to 30 percent on energy just by installing an intelligent building management system to manage devices such as occupancy sensors, light dimmers and smart thermostats. Buildings with smart meters or smart thermostats can participate in utility demand response programs.

ICT can greatly improve safety and security via access cards, video monitoring, fire and smoke alarms and similar means. Full situational awareness means that building operators have a complete picture of their building and its environs, and are able to respond to issues or threats in real time. In some cases, these systems can even correct problems remotely and automatically.

Get the DRIVING LICENCE and VEHICLE REGN CERTIFICATES into a SMART CARD instead of carrying papers around. TN is 25 years backward.... Every state around TN has SMARTCARD for everything... Electricity bills are generated by the READER using a handheld billing equipment and bills printed on the spot. The data is uploaded into computers later. If CHENNAI has to keep up with its peers like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi etc, the above is immediately required.
