Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

The easiest way is to implement enivornment plastic tax on the manufacturers and reduce the tax based on buyback of plastics that are sold. That will induce value to the discarded plastic and people will collect plastic waste and give back to the manufacturer for money who in turn will reduce the tax obligation. This will also give rise to traceability of pollutants' origin and net polluting accounting. Higher tax will also lead to alternatives being encouraged.

plastics manufacturing and use should be banned and implemented strictly by authorities. Use of alternatives like cloth, aluminium, Agri residuals, mushroom packaging should be promoted. High time we should work towards it, before its too late. Human beings were living even without plastics.

IF we have banned plastic then its duty of authority to first to give options of business rehabilitation for existing manufacturing units of plastic material and then should implement ban on manufacturing units itself first. if its not being manufactured it will not be used. that should be more simple way of implementing ban. Alternatives should be made available before hand implementing any ban which should be sole responsibility of authority and overseen by the banning tribunal.

1.Awareness of harms of plastic by stats. 2. Tie ups with malls, stores etc for discount if customer opts for paper bags. 3. Plastic collection center at block level, initially act consumer by offering exchange coupons, which govt can get from ngo and ppp. 4. Involve water packaging firms to find alternative of plastic water bottles.

Banning Plastics in not a good idea now as they have become a part of our lives of the common people. In place of these non-biodegradable plastics which are been used now biodegradable plastics should be brought in market. Biodegradable plastics are also very strong and durable as the non-biodegradable plastics, they can mix with soil in just a month or around it. Thus disposing these eco-friendly waste will not be a great problem for us.
