Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Banning Plastics in not a good idea now as they have become a part of our lives of the common people. In place of these non-biodegradable plastics which are been used now biodegradable plastics should be brought in market. Biodegradable plastics are also very strong and durable as the non-biodegradable plastics, they can mix with soil in just a month or around it. Thus disposing these eco-friendly waste will not be a great problem for us.

An alert professor always used to teach us...whenever you come with a problem and seek a solution, always come with alternate solutions. Simply banning is not the answer in view of quantum of usage across the country , vending machines for any food product requires to be upgraded to use the eco-friendly raw material for packing the moment any customer demands a product. Cost has to be passed on to customer only.

Great topic. Great Initiative. Plastic bag contributes the most in troubles disposing the waste --------------------- 1) Paper Eco-System for paper bags: Promote local industry making paper bags, give intensives Gov subsidy Re 2 per bag is also very compelling. 2) Vigil: Have experienced in Pune twice: when Police wants, the use of plastic bag goes to almost zero. This vigil ended in a month, but had impact during that time. People got habbit using their own bags.SO IT WORKS.

Sir, my sincere request is to promote jute industry which can replace plastic...also the ban on plastic is still not implemented properly and still the sub standard plastic is available in the market which is not good to environment. I have started using cloth bags wherever i go instead plastic.

We better accept that plastic has done more of harm to us than the benefits. It seems a quick solution but adds to the destruction of our natural resources. #BanPlastic We need to remember that plastic can never be Hygienic. Most of us are unaware of the category of plastic used in our daily need products. #PlasticCups are unhealthy, especially the ones we get on the roadside shops.
