Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

#PlasticCarryBags Even if Govt. impose a complete ban on the use of plastic carry bags , plate etc but its tough to achieve it at ground level.I agree with #AmrendraKumar_19 for his Clean Credit Concept, actually the thing is that how much of waste we are able to collect and decomposed with suitable techniques like waste to energy, plastic waste to fuel oil(pyrolysis) which makes the plastic waste a primary input for this processes.Also by encourage people to use biodegradable plasticproducts.

1) Reduce the production in the factories day by day. 2) Stop inter state trading of plastic bags, cups, plates like liquor. 3) Govt should discourage by increasing the price. 4) At the same time, Alternatively cloth bags,Paper cups, paper plates/natural tree leave cups, plates should be encouraged as it will create win win situation for both rural area's in terms of income and for urban area's in terms of reduced plastic and cleanliness with proper regulations meeting safety standards

#PlasticCarryBags, #PlasticCups, #PlasticPlates The needs and places which makes the usage of these plastic products should be identified and proper alternate arrangements should be provided.Plastic plates and cups are used in hotels,houses at festival or function time when more people gather.As part of hygienic idea people prefer use and throw cups and plates.So before banning the plastic cups and plates the hotels should be advised to maintain the high level of hygienic by washing in hot water

Banning of Plastic bags have so far not worked anywhere in India over a long term. There is a need for viable alternative to plastic bags. The problem with polythene is that it ends up in garbage or littered all over the place. Devising a mechanism to ensure complete collection of bags after use would be more sensible & viable solution. During my doctoral studies at IIMB, I had piloted such a mechanism where in every used item had Rs 1/- return value added through deposit refund scheme.
