Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

ban manufacture of ultra thin plastic bags. Govt or local body shall sell cotton bags to the vendors and shop keepers. if a costomer need a bag shopkeeper can provide the cotton bag to the customer but he will change for it say Rs 2 per bag. This bag he can return to the Govt or local body with minimum change of say 20 paisa that is cost of washing.

Ensure ban of plastic bags in small neighbourhood markets and on all vendors who are selling goods (eg fruits vegetables)right at doorstep of people. People have to learn new habits to save the environment.Carry Your Own Bag should be the slogan. All RWAs and good market associations should take responsibility of spreading this awareness. Also ban florists from using plastic sheet packaging of flowers.it can be easily wrapped in paper for gifting and newspaper when taking flowers for your home.

Sir.there is a way we can utilise waste plastics as a advantage.we can recycle it and make "polyblend" which is a fine powder of recycle plastic..we can mix this polynlend with "bitumen" which is used for laying the roads this polyblend when on adding will give water repellent property to roads and increase its life,also this will give a opportunity to ragpicker to earn much.because the present rate of plastic per kg is less than ₹1.we can give them ₹5-₹10 for this.asAHMED KHAN did in banglore

Impose fines for all plastic bags except for the use of bags used in waste bins for easy way of emptying them. Ask vendors to use paper bags. Promote (popularize) videos to create bags out of newspaper. Ask vendors to issue paper bags at a given charge. People will either opt to pay for bags or bring carry bags with them before shopping day to day materials.

Sir, My suggestion would be to put reverse vending machines for plastic bags. If you give used bags to the machine then it has to give money depending on the weight. Then people will voluntarily start bringing the plastic bags and take money. This can be scientifically recycled and used for the other purposes.Machines will be of the size of our ATM machines. They will automatically compress and collect the bag I have read that these types of machines are there for bottle collection in Germany.
