Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

sir you can increase the price of polythene upto 15-20rps./polybags. by increasing the price leads customers  to move from polybags to jute bags and clothes bags. my views are- 1.we can use paper bags for those products which are consumed daily in small quantity. 2.jute or clothes bags for those products whichh are purchase weekly in large quantity. 3.by replacing polybags from malls stores. 4.polybags are highly dangerous for animals health like cows and dogs because they feed directly.

govt shud encourage custmrs to carry their own cloth or jute bags and for shpkeprs to introduce jute or ppr bgs.tea stall every where use plastic cups which are not disposed properly.time has come to start using "KULHADS" again.Its cheap and ecofriendly.plus point of jute bags and kulhads that they provide jobs for those small ppl who r jobless. provide cheap alternative before banning plastic

Though there been vigilant rule applied on usage of polythene, but in vain as people aren't adopted to other substantial material like re-usage of bag, Jute bags. If we give scope to jute bag instead of polythene to the same vendor who caters for polythene will be an appropriate replacement and it could also cater to employment in small scale iindustry. kindly,do the awareness program in all mass media from Web telecast to Newspaper. People will be awared if we portray through proper medium.

In many of cities plastic bags and cups are restricted. Promoting the eco-friendly alternatives is the only solution: 1. encourage women groups or NGOs to make more paper carry bags. In this way both women empowerment possible and environment also saved from plastic. 2. promote re-usable plate or cup i.e. steel or porcelain.

We are not hitting the root cause. The plastic bags and products are in market as they are very cheap. If government imposes heavy taxes on the products and they become costlier to other alternatives, the shopkeepers and people will automatically reduce their consumption. More over, the main plastic raw material industry should be decommissioned in a phased manner.

1)Academic institutions can play a very vital role in handling this issues. The students must take an oath every day not to use plastic bags etc. 2) An information bulletin & a questionnaire should be given be children and their parents on the use of plastic bags indicating bad effect on the use these plastic items. 3) Students/parents should avoid the use of plastic items in birthday parties etc. 4) All plastic bags, cup plates must be banned in school/college and offices.

Our women power should come forward for making a small scale industry of bags made of cloth I.e. old thella system should be encouraged. If we make our bags stylish & more utilizable then people will prefer it. Awareness is to be created about hazardous effect of polybags & schools can play vital role in it by promoting jute & cloth bag for day to day usage though their students, msg will spread to the homes.
