Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Make small scale industries for making bass paper bags, innovate it as a carrying capacity , innovate the looks of carry bags made of bass paper. Jute bag is also good option. Make them good looking by art work , design and comfortable to use.jute bags are also reliable and long lasting

Everyone knows plastic is injurious to environment,in which way its bad? Reason is it does not get degrade.banning of plastic in not a easy thing.why cant we find an alternative? My solution to this problem is usage of bio degradable plastic bags.It will get degrade in 110 days and turn into a manure for plants. We are using that in our home for past 6 years.govt of India cant initiate it and ban non degradable plastic bags.

On this matter, Govt’s intention are not clear even. Govt can ban all factories manufacturing plastic carry bags and plan for employment of these factory workers. Only plastic bags more than 20Kg capacity should be manufactured for dustbins. Before plastic bags, peoples were used to bring cloth bags in markets but due to plastic carry bags peoples left this habit. Technology should be developed to produce low cost high quality jute bags. Cold drinks, biscuits etc packing should be paper based.
