Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Some major cities in California are using following ways to control the use of plastic bags. Retail stores put a price on plastic bags instead of giving it for free with purchases. That way people don't want to spend money every time to buy plastic bag. Instead they can bring their own bag (re-use more). Many stores have taken out plastic bags completely. If customers want, they can buy paper or cloth bags.These stores keep big barrels and customers are encouraged to return their plastic bags.

sir plastic material ko ban karne ki jagah unka galat roop se disposal/dumping band karwaiye. govt ko ye time to time ensure karna chahiye ki 40 micron se kam ka plastic material manufacturer na banaye aur na hi market mai available ho.. recyclable plastic hi use ho.. jisse athelets ke liye running track ki mat,good roads, aur bhi bhaut se useful materials banaye ja sakte hai...

Using plastic to build roads can extend the life of road and also lessen burden on landfills. So instead of incerenating it (which will cause air pollution), we should use our 'waste' plastic wisely. For this, we need to segregate our waste (biodegradable and non biodegradable) before dumping. Municipal should pay attention towards it.

Plastic isn't itself harmful, but it improper disposal is harmful. I want to share my experience. We use to collect poly bags and instead of throwing away in dustbin, we give it to vegetable hawkers. It helps hawkers and also save our environment. This is very simple, we just need to collect it and give it to needy. Such innovative steps will help alot.

You can never ban plastic unless the govt provides a suitable alternative to it. The govt should stress on recycling rather than banning plastic. This decision just highlights the facts that we dont have an infrastructure to recycle waste. This is a cover up for the said deficiency
