Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

There is no need of ban on plastic because this is recyclable. No dumping is required if arrangements are made to recycle it completely. No convenient and affordable substitute for packing of milk & bread, ready to eat food items, medicines, dairy products, food-grains, cement, kiryana items, toys, body of mobiles, TV and computers, light weight plastic furniture etc etc is present. Banning of plastic is no solution but it will increase corruption only till its substitute is not suggested.

Plastic is a petroleum product. So long the oil refineries are being established and run for producing petroleum, the plastic is bound to generate, so long we wish to ride on vehicles run with petroleum the refineries are a must. The one and the only solution to the problem of plastic is to collect the used plastic bags/goods separately and handed over to recyclers for proper disposal. No alternative of plastic is available till now. No jute or paper can met the requirement today.

Continuing 3bags policy a) blue for plastic b) green for food waste c) white for rest of things Finally we can have food banks, where employees can collect food from restarunts,houses or alikeafter meals ,the left food that will go in waste should be collected and provided to needy ones.

Hi, Currently I am living in Norway and found out few things people here are following: 1. Waste Segregation : we should start a movement to teach citizens of our country to separate the waste on their type. We can different kinds of color for different types of wastes. Municipal bodies should place colored waste collectors for different kinds of waste in localities. Rules should be placed for the defaulters. This will solve few things like bio degradable waste will be separate from non bio.

The main aspect we must consider is the cycle of Garbage Disposal. It is high time that we effectively moved from mixed garbage disposal to separated Segregated Garbage methods for biodegradable and recyclable wastes & use these for • manure production and • recycled plastic, paper and metals respectively... Increased production of recycled paper & plastic will reduce dependency on newer production and controlling pollution. Recycled paper is good for carry bags. Manure helps in agriculture.
