Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Gov. should pass an order to shut down all the factories which are engaged in making plastic products. As an alternative gov. should open new factories to make products such as paper bags and cups and plates made of biodegradable items and to give employment to all those workers who were earlier working in the plastic making factories. Gov. should also put a complete ban on the import of plastic goods and should raise very high taxes on the plastic products.

#GoGreen I think Gov should take a strict action against the use of Non-Biodegradable plastics. In India, there are lots of Rules and regulations in favor of general public, But the question is "how many of them are being implemented?" or "how many people taking it seriously?" Gov can implement following: -Use or supply of Plastic bags must be Punishable offence. -Bring alternative products eg:jute,paper,cotton etc -Try to invent biodegradable plastic. Gov should make an act "GreenIndiaAct"

*REQUEST FOR HELP* Respected Pm,I am a citizen of Dibrugarh & a resident of Khaniagaon located near Banipur Railway Station.I am here to ask for your help by mentioning the reckless burning of huge piles of plastic by the cleaners in Banipur Railway station which douses the entire locality in toxic fumes causing a smog-like situation lasting as long as 12 hours.Kindly contact the authorities to curb this irresponsible practice.

Short term approach is to ban the use of polythene, ensure that it is not manufactured and used by the retailers and citizens. Even the companies packing products in polythene be directed to shift to bio-degradable options. The second approach is to come up with a comprehensive public awareness campaign. The module of the NSS volunteers of Kurukshetra University can be emulated, wherein they have taken small steps to spread awareness on reducing dependence on polythene.
