Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Respected Sir, In my opinion first identify the company which are making plastic bag and make a prohibited law of plastic bag and give tax incentive to paper bag industry as result of that those company will automatcally shifted to manufacture paper bag.And the other side sudden snap check to be carried out in grocary and other shop where plastic bags are commonly used.At last there should be one brand ambassador like amitabh who can be used for campaigning for prohibition of plastic bags. Thank

Each and every shopkeeper should give the material on jute bags if purchaser not brings the same and it should be applicable for every shopkeeper in bazaar so that no body can sale the material in polythene if someone brings the jute or cloth bags then no need of doing above, but i told it should be applicable to each shopkeeper even of any vegetable seller

If the cos/brands like pepsico, hul, p&g , j&j, bisleri, kinley etc start taking responsibility to ensure collection and proper disposal of their packaging it could help in better environmental sustainability...fixing a 25 paisa - 1 rs for each returned lays chips pack, bisleri bottle etc may well ensure better collection & disposal by local kabadiwalas....just like newspapers raddi is collected and paid for and then recycled...thats why we dont find newspapers loitered around

Plastic is most of the time as there is need. We need to first have some alternative product this could be lets say a Cotton / Jute bag (Jhola). This should be made less expensive governtment can have subsidy on it by printing add like (I AM RESPONSIBLE ARE YOU? ) Second is to have warning message printed on every Polythene bag (I am spreading Gandagi). This will create awareness and buzz among the people.

1. Have a drop dead date, give time to adopt alternatives; but no exceptions later 2. Cut the supply, no exceptions (thick, thin or whatever) 3. Seize not-allowed items and DESTROY them, no black-marketing or reselling 4. Punish the guilty vendors as per law 5. Address concerns, provide alternatives for plastics usage
