Developing the best teachers

Teachers are the cornerstone of any educational system. Developing the teaching talent and incentivizing best teachers, retaining good teachers are all significant to improving the quality of teaching. Views are elicited so that our higher education institutions can nurture good faculty who in turn can propel higher standards in our students. This theme will focus in on the higher education sector.

• What strategies can be in place to attract the best from the university sector to teaching profession?
• How could support system for research and academic development be provided?
• What incentives could be provided to promote research among teachers of higher education institutions?
• Whether the scheme of National Mission on Teachers & Teaching is adequate or should it be enhanced with some additional features and what are they?
• What percentage of academic leadership training should be online?
• What percentage of Pedagogical training should be online?
• What percentage of Professional course training – should be online?
• What is the role of industry experts as teachers?
• Is not Academic leadership course essential for all VCs and principals?
• How can teachers be given exposure on a timely or constant basis to new knowledge being developed worldwide in their domain?
• Is not counselling an essential role of teachers also?

अध्ययन-अध्यापन का कार्य ऐसे गुरुजन बन्धुओं को सौपना चाहिए जो झूठ-बेइमानी-चोरी-छल-कपट आसक्ति-ममता-स्वार्थ से परे हों अथवा इन्हें हर हालत में छोड़कर ईमान-सच्चाई-संयम-सेवा को धारण कर चुके हो|

‘दोष रहित सत्य प्रधान मुक्ति और अमरता से युक्त सर्वोत्तम जीवन विधान और अमन-चैन का सुखी समृद्ध समाजस्थापित करने हेतु गुरुजन बन्धुओं को सबसे पहली तथा सबसे बड़ी जिम्मेदारी अपने ऊपर लेनी और उसे सुचारु रूप से वहन करनी चाहिये ।

गुरुजन बन्धुओं को सर्वप्रथम तो स्वतः यह संकल्प लेना होगा कि हम ‘सद्भाव एवं सद्व्यवहार प्रधान शिष्ट एवं संयमित जीवन को ही आधार बना, चलते-चलाते हुए, ‘सत्यं प्रधान शिष्ट एवं संयमित जीवन को ही आधार चलते-चलाते हुए, ‘सत्यं बद्, धर्मं चर’ (सत्य बोलें और धर्म पर रहें-चलें !) जो जीवन का सर्वोत्तम लक्ष्य है, को ही एकमात्र लक्ष्य बनाकर आगे-पढे़-पढ़ायेंगे बढ़े बढ़ायेंगे |

Govt should think about grass root level education. Private schools are exploiting teachers and parents both.

The UGC has made 75 % attendance of students in classes compulsory.It is not a practical idea for social sciences because there is no practical work involved as we find in science classes.Therefore, the compulsion of 75 % attendance should be reasonably relaxed.

The govt should make provisions in the proposed education policy for creating Autonomous colleges for promoting innovations in college education.

Since the post of Lecturer has been now created in senior secondary schools, the name of the post of college- lectures should be changed and must be replaced by the name of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors in the UG and PG colleges respectively. All college teachers( including the faculty of teachers colleges of Rajasthan appointed under RVERS 2010) must be given the UGC pay scales.There should be no discrimination on this issue.

Universities should be made more autonomous so that they may get involved in meaningful research and innovations. Vice chancellors should be selected from among the faculty of the universities and must NOT be appointed on the basis of their political affiliations and ideological inclinations. Registrars, finance comptrollers, etc must not the officers of the State /Centre services. Instead, they should be independently selected through open- selection process underthe university system.

NCTE has totally failed. It must be dissolved.The NCTE act must be repealed .A national commission on teacher education should be constituted for guidance and directions for meaningful teacher education .Universities can effectively monitor teachers colleges.All teacher education programmes should be under the jurisdiction of the university.Only govt and university colleges should be upgraded to IASEs and CTEs under CSS of the MHRD.
